From beginning to end, this is a quintessentially Australian insight into the hardships and realities of rural life within our farming communities, showing how stoic many rural folk can be, with a no nonsense, get on with it attitude, even in the face of the most gut wrenching and emotionally draining of circumstances. This film shines a spotlight on the importance of both encouraging and supporting rural folk, in being able to open up and talk candidly about those issues that trouble them most, in the hope that it can save at least one life, from the dark clouds of suicide.

This is a movie like no other Australian movie ever made. Finally a story about current day issues with the heart and integrity to show what really happens. Well done!

They toil everyday to secure our nations food and fibre. They endure many pressures, from weather, to prices, or the ever mounting demand of governance and policy. Every farmer is a jack of all trades. But they are also Husbands, Wives, Parents, Family members and intricate driving forces of their rural communities. I sat alone in a cinema and watched the ‘Just A Farmer’ film. The word overwhelming comes to mind, not just that it resonated with my own story, but it resonated with the stories I hear in every community I have the privilege to work with across Australia. To Leila McDougall the writer, producer and star of the film, congratulations on depicting what is an all-too-common story-line in rural, regional, and remote communities across Australia

Highlights ripple effect of mental health and suicide in a way that gives you hope using soft but to the point language. From the beginning I became one with the journey of each character and stayed with it right through to the end.
